Wiki Loves Museums

a photo campaign & fellowship to improve Indian culture, art and heritage related content on Wikipedia.

On the occasion of India's 75th year of Independence, we invite you to photograph and engage with museum collections that celebrate the stories of India.

The Contest

By sharing photos from your museum visit on Wikimedia Commons, help enable and empower the free-knowledge movement.

From August 16-September 30, 2022 participate in a nationwide photo-contest. Visit museums (in India), click pictures, upload them to Wikimedia Commons & win prizes.

Theme: The Indian Experience. Upload photos of collections that tell about India's people, communities, traditions, natural history, textiles, jewellery, arts, trade, currency, transport, industry or important moments in history!

We believe that culture belongs to everyone, and everyone has a significant role to play in contributing to cultural heritage too. This contest is open to all residents of India.

Why Participate

We hope that through this campaign we will collectively be able to help increase the representation of India's museums on Wikipedia. These photos help in creating educational resources, publications, etc. making museums accessible to everyone, irrespective of the language or geographical boundaries.

3 Winning Photos receive a cash award of Rs. 25,000/- , 15,000/- and 5,000/-
