What is Children at Museums?
“[email protected]” is a digital initiative that encourages Museums to allow children to take over important roles at Museums through structured events.
Museums are spaces for learning, connecting and sharing – and so, children are invited to Museums to participate in working alongside Curators, Conservationists, Education Officers and people who transform the Museum from a physical space to an experience.
What can Children / Young people do at Museums ?
Through our pilot projects, we have seen young people take over museums to lead guided walks, conduct educational programs, manage the Museum Cafe, handle social media, conduct conservation-analysis and more.
Take a look at our pilot takeover:
Some more glimpses:
Why should a museum do this?
At both our takeovers, museum-staff acknowledged that working with students was refreshing, and allowed them to see the museum through new eyes. School students who participated in takeovers felt a renewed ownership towards the city museum in Chandigarh and some of them even went on to intern with the museum in the summer. If anything, the campaign helps you build a relationship with your youngest visitors.
